On March 17, on the day of the 85th anniversary of the birth of Rudolf Nureyev, a significant film premiere of Swan Lake will take place in the capital.
In the film, ballet fans will see the legendary recording of 1966, where the great duet dances – Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fontaine. At one time, Nureyev himself edited this ballet for the Vienna Opera.
The dancer once staged Swan Lake in Vienna for himself and Margot Fonteyn. After a couple of years of joint performances, the couple became one of the most famous duets of their time. Both dancers were at the peak of their form at the time of 1964 – the dance became a real triumph. And the premiere turned out to be so impressive that it even got into the pages of the Guinness Book of Records – the dancers were called to bow 89 times! No one else has experienced this.
Everything about this show is good. The magnificent scenery and costumes were made by the famous Greek artist Nicholas Georgiadis, who had become famous by that time thanks to productions at the Royal Opera House in London.
But the most curious thing in the new film for ballet fans is the unusual Nureyev edition, where an important place is given to the male dance, which reveals the talent and temperament of the dancer in all its brilliance.
The dance couple Nureyev and Fonteyn are characterized not only by the technical purity of their performance, but also by special sincerity, delicacy, and tenderness. “Ice and Fire” – being opposites, they created one of the best duets in the history of world ballet.
In addition to Moscow, the film will be seen by viewers in 50 cities.
Elena Bulova.
