Today, March 3, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of the Russian Federation Victoria Abramchenko, at the government commission on the protection of Lake Baikal, held in Irkutsk, announced a sharp increase in the anthropogenic load on the lake coast in 2022 compared to 2021. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the trend will continue.
“There are 14 federal specially protected natural areas (PAs) around Lake Baikal. Three of them are the most visited by tourists, the load on them has increased by 40%. Our task is to check how ready these territories are for further growth in tourist flow and load,” said Ms. Abramchenko.
The number of protected areas, which account for the maximum tourist flows, includes the Pribaikalsky, Zabaikalsky and Tunkinsky national parks.
