Suspected of stealing relics of Nicholas the Wonderworker detained in Leningrad region

The police detained a woman who is suspected of stealing a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker from the Church of the Beheading of John the Baptist in the city of Kirovsk, Leningrad Region. The suspect is a 69-year-old Petersburger.
“In the shortest possible time, employees of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Kirovsky district of the Leningrad region detained a suspect in the theft of a particle of the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker,”— reported official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Irina Volk.
According to preliminary data, the incident happened yesterday, August 30, between 12:00 and 16:00. The woman arrived by car at the church on Naberezhnaya Street in Kirovsk. She asked to be allowed to touch the relic and then took it away with her, not forgetting to cross herself. Her motives are unknown.
Law enforcement officers found a shrine in the apartment of the suspect. Soon the relics of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker will be returned to the temple, the police said.
