Microsoft informed on a corporate blog that from January 10 will no longer release software updates and technical assistance for devices running Windows 8.1.
In the message, company representatives suggested that users upgrade to a more current version of Windows.
Microsoft clarified that Windows 8.1 devices will not stop working, but the OS will no longer receive new updates, which could put users of older computers at risk.
However, the corporation stressed that today there is no free way to upgrade from an outdated OS version to Windows 10 or 11.
