A pilot program “Kalcularis” has been launched in the capital, which helps school students who do not understand arithmetic well and who have problems mastering the rules of division and multiplication, cope with the fear of the exact sciences.
According to the authors of the program, experts from the Education for the Future charity foundation, almost 1.5 million Russian schoolchildren learn the rules of mathematics slowly and poorly. But in this they can help … chess.
In the Central House of Chess Player. Mikhail Botvinnik hosted a presentation of the Kalkulyaris program, which allows children and teenagers to play chess, develop their ability to think logically, improve their mathematical abilities and not be afraid of numbers.
As Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the International Chess Federation, noted, chess and mathematics lessons mutually positively influence each other.
– Chess helps to better understand mathematical laws, and knowledge of these laws helps to understand chess strategies. In addition, the game teaches to respect a partner, act according to the rules, think logically and not repeat mistakes, – said Arkady Dvorkovich.
250 schoolchildren of the capital are already taking part in the pilot project Kalkulyaris. They “pump” their knowledge in mathematics, try to overcome their fear of mathematical problems and, through the game of chess, master the rules of mathematical calculations. The results of their classes look like this: 75% of schoolchildren have mastered such a skill as number processing, 74% have mastered addition and subtraction within small numbers, 32% have learned to divide and multiply, 34% of children have learned to add and subtract numbers within 100, and 12% have mastered these skills with numbers within 1000.
