Students expelled for wearing headscarves reinstated at Novocherkassk Medical College

Three out of five students of the Novocherkassk Medical College (Rostov Region), who were previously expelled due to wearing headscarves, have been reinstated. About it wrote President of the National Association of Lawyers of Russia (NAJUR) Ruslan Nagiev in social networks.

According to the head of the organization, the leadership of the educational institution made a compromise. Three girls will continue their education in college, two of their own volition decided not to return.

“A mutual decision was made that the girls would attend college classes in clothes that comply with the rules of the educational institution, while not violating the prescriptions of their faith and traditions,” Ruslan Nagiyev wrote.

The president of the association expressed gratitude to the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, the representative of the head of the republic in the Rostov region Ruslan Gonchaev, the deputy governor of the Rostov region Igor Guskov, lawyers Aza Aliyeva and Magomed Nurbagomedov. Ruslan Nagiyev also thanked the journalists and bloggers who covered the conflict.

Recall that in January a group of natives of Chechnya and Dagestan expelled from the Novocherkassk Medical College due to a violation of the internal regulations: the girls refused to take off their headscarves due to religious beliefs when they came to the educational institution. The students wore headdresses over the cover, as is customary in educational institutions in other Islamic regions – Dagestan and Tatarstan. But the leadership of the medical college considered that the girls propagate religious views with their clothes. To recover, a group of students, with the support of NAJUR, was preparing to file a lawsuit with the recognition of illegal actions of the college administration. However, the conflict was settled out of court.
