Maastricht University (Netherlands) and University of Borders (Chile) concluded that strength training in people over 85 years of age increases strength and muscle mass more effectively than in the 65-75 age group.
29 volunteers, of whom 17 were aged 65-75 years, and 12 over 85, exercised for 3 months according to a special program, and in the first group the increase in muscle mass was 10 percent, and in the second – 11 percent. The second group also improved in general physical fitness measures, such as getting up from a chair and getting around.
The classes were held under the supervision of professionals, and biologists suggest that in old age one should train with caution and in this format.
