Steam to end support for Windows 7 in 2024

Steam video game digital distribution service announcedthat the platform will no longer support computers running Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 from January 1, 2024. Users are encouraged to upgrade to new versions of Windows to continue using Steam.
The change is necessary due to the fact that the Steam client is partially tied to the new functions of the Google Chrome browser built into the client, which has ceased to support Windows 7. Also in the future, Steam will require certain updates to run, which are only available on Windows 10 and 11.
Steam advises moving to new operating systems as soon as possible, as Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 are no longer supported by Microsoft and are more prone to viruses. Collectively, outdated versions of Windows are installed on nearly 1.86% of Steam computers, according to Valve. Microsoft stopped support for Windows 7 in January 2020.
