Steam video game digital distribution service raised recommended regional prices for 31 currencies – in Russia, the average increase was 68%, while in various categories prices increased by 40-114%. The company says publishers are still free to price their games by region, and plan to update their recommended prices more frequently based on the economic situation in individual countries.
In some states, the increase in prices was even more significant than in Russia. In Kazakhstan, Turkey and Argentina prices rose by 77%, 400% and 500% respectively. After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, the games of a number of publishers became unavailable on Steam for Russian users. To bypass the blocking, the Russians created accounts in Kazakhstan, Turkey, Argentina and other countries where regional prices for games were lower than global ones.
