The chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Affairs, Nina Ostanina (KPRF), said that establishments openly promoting non-traditional sexual relations could be closed under the law banning LGBT propaganda. According to Mrs. Ostanina, gay clubs should be considered exactly such establishments. She stated this “RIA News”.
“Gay clubs are the very places where people with a non-traditional orientation, as a rule, meet … I consider such establishments as establishments that promote non-traditional sexual relations,” the deputy said. “If an institution frankly promotes non-traditional relationships, this institution will certainly be closed,” said Nina Ostanina. At the same time, according to her, after the adoption of the bill, “people who have a non-traditional orientation, they have lived and will continue to live.”
Earlier in the State Duma were made bills to completely ban LGBT propaganda. “Our initiative is not an act of censorship. We do not prohibit the mention of LGBT people as a phenomenon. It is propaganda that we ban,” the initiator of the amendments, the head of the committee on information policy Alexander Khinshtein (United Russia) assured the journalists at the time.
October 27 amendments unanimously have been approved in the first reading. After the adoption of the bills, the current art. 6.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses (propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations among minors) will provide for punishment for such propaganda among persons of any age. The fine for citizens under this article will be from 50 thousand to 400 thousand rubles, and for legal entities – up to 5 million rubles. (the maximum punishment threatens violators when using the media and the Internet).
