In the State Duma, on the occasion of International Mother’s Day, which is celebrated on November 26, today, November 27, for the first time since the beginning of the special military operation (SVO), a meeting of deputies with mothers and wives of SVO participants was held. Several dozen women from different regions were invited to it. Member of the Committee on Family Protection, Issues of Paternity, Maternity and Childhood Tatyana Larionova (United Russia; United Russia) welcomed the women, noting that each of them has “their own quiet front, where every day requires perseverance, courage, and patience.”

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Protection, Issues of Paternity, Maternity and Childhood Nina Ostanina (Communist Party of the Russian Federation) recalled that deputies back in 1997 proposed establishing a holiday dedicated to mothers, and she is glad that Mother’s Day has been “accepted.” “Our military today and our victories are the merits of our mothers,” said State Duma Deputy Speaker Anna Kuznetsova (ER). “No matter what programs were in schools, what priorities were set at different times, you were able to educate our defenders. Today our children follow their example. My sons, looking at our heroes, also want to become soldiers. And this is the best lesson of patriotism and the greatest mission – not only the defense of the Motherland, but also an example for our children.”

The meeting was attended by relatives of those killed in the combat zone, including those posthumously presented with state awards, including the title of Hero of Russia. Some of them spoke about the creation of memory centers for the victims and the establishment of charitable foundations, the work of which is aimed at supporting the participants of the Northern Military District, in particular, organizing medical care and delivering medicines and equipment.
