March 20 for schools is the beginning of a painful time for the end of the 11-year cycle of education, the start of state exams. True, so far for “early students” – those graduates who write the exam before the main stream. But the numbers of those wishing to take the exam are impressive: more than 18,000 people signed up to take the exam ahead of schedule.

Today, graduates will write geography and literature, then, on March 23, the Russian language. And the entire term of the early exam is within the period from March 20 to April 19.

The vast majority of pre-schedule students are graduates of schools of previous years. Those who want to get a higher score and dare to enter the best university. Or changed his mind and moved to study further. Or he served in the army, was on treatment … It is interesting that the existing law does not limit the statute of limitations and the age of the “student”, even at the age of 70, come to the Unified State Examination. The number of attempts is also not limited. But according to statistics, almost all those who take early exams graduated from school no more than 3 years ago.

Among the current 18 thousand there are also current schoolchildren – but only those who have convincing reasons for an earlier surrender of the state. For example, participation in the Olympiad on the dates of the main exam, sports camps, competitions, departure for treatment or permanent residence in another country, etc.

If we talk about state exams in general, they have undergone changes in 2023. For example, the Russian language has undergone changes. Some questions will have more answer options (previously there were only four), some will change the criteria for grading, the orthoepic dictionary will expand. In tasks in physics and chemistry, integrated, more complex tasks will appear. English will not change significantly, with the exception of differently formulated grammar tasks, and less points will be given for tests – more for the practical part. There will be more questions in history and social science, and fewer in biology, but in some places the level of complexity will increase … Only geography has not undergone any changes. Probably because last year she was the least chosen and passed on the worst score.

“Another notable thing is that they again increased the time for writing an exam in history and social science,” says an expert in the field of the Unified State Examination and education, Maria Bushueva. – Now for 210 minutes. In general, with the time of passing the exam, not everything is so simple. The longest exam: profile mathematics, physics, biology, literature and computer science, takes 3 hours 55 minutes. Why not four? Yes, because then, according to the law, children would have to be fed in the classroom. And they don’t even always want to drink them at the exam. Because there were cases – a bottle of water capsizes, fills the form, blurs the barcode or ink (the exam can only be written with a black helium pen – author) And that’s it, the form is unusable. Unfortunately, the practice of violation of the drinking regime is common, especially in the regions. Like the heat, stuffiness in the classrooms, from which not only the children, but also the inspectors faint. All for the same – so that the forms do not suffer. There were precedents with birds, flies that flew into the audience through open windows. Or with thunderstorms that flew in the form of rain and wind. They can also spoil the form, and the sheet itself can fly out the window … So the poor graduates sit for 4 hours in the heat. There are almost no air conditioners in schools, it is believed that schools do not work in the summer … The main period for passing the exam, meanwhile, this year is May 26 – June 20.

On a positive note, I can say that according to the statement of the leadership of the FIPI (Federal Institute of Pedagogical Measurements, on whose website demo versions of tasks in all subjects of the Unified State Examination are published – ed.), this year the exams will also have tasks completely taken from their open bank. And there will even be separate “tickets” for each subject straight from the demo tasks. So there is a chance to get exactly what you taught – someone will come across such a super-option.

Offensive mistakes in writing the exam are associated with the formalism of state examinations and excessive excitement. It’s not even about trying to smuggle “spurs” or a phone – basically everyone understands that the audience is stuffed with technology – in 2022, more than 700 people were kicked out for phones, cheat sheets and other violations in the Unified State Examination. And about the annoying mistakes of conscientious graduates. Focus on tasks – make mistakes in writing personal data. Some people forget to put signatures in the required boxes – and without them, the form is invalid, you will have to retake it. Or tasks are not recorded there. Even a comma, a plus sign, put in the wrong place, the machine will count as an error. In general, in our time, “the absent-minded person from Basseinaya Street” will never become a professor.
