Spring sex exacerbation: how libido and season are related

There is a popular saying that in spring “a flower, a sprout, a bird, and a bug, and people even more so, are drawn to each other.” It is true or a myth that in spring not only nature comes to life and is renewed, but also our interest in the opposite sex, we found out from experts.

Experts of various profiles agree that human instincts, including the basic one, from time immemorial have lived in harmony and rhythm with nature, and nature with the weather. However, the explanations for the fact that “sex exacerbation” associated with the onset of calendar spring actually happens are a little different for everyone.

“Our libido (sexual desire – author) is influenced not only by physiological indicators – health status, age, sexual constitution, etc. – but also by a combination of other factors at the moment,” says sexologist Olga Danilina. – This is both a psychological state and a sociological status – a sense of oneself relative to society. Natural and weather conditions are also on this list. But they will only work if all other indicators are normal. To put it simply, a healthy person who is happy with his life will be more inclined to flirt in the spring than in the winter, simply because the sun has come out, the snowdrifts have melted, and the birds have started chirping. Man, as a part of living nature, undoubtedly feels the coming time of renewal in the same way as flora and fauna. But that’s why he is a person, to depend on other external circumstances. If he is sad, is not healthy, or is burdened with everyday and work problems, no visiting birds will put him in a romantic mood.

A study of the issue shows that experiments aimed at establishing a connection between libido and the seasons have been repeatedly carried out at different times and in different parts of the world. However, for some reason it is always only on men.

“The algorithm of female libido is much more complicated,” psychotherapist Mikhail Gross is sure, “therefore, the connection between sexual desires and climate is studied on representatives of the stronger sex. A man in this sense is closer to nature. There are a lot of jokes on the topic that a man must first be fed, since a hungry and tired man is not at all a romantic hero. We can add here that a man who is covered in snow, frozen and has just dug out his car or the passage to the door of the house from under the snow also does not think about intimacy. The fewer problems, the more reasons to think about pleasures – also an old truth. Spring relieves residents of cold countries from many difficulties beyond their control – unpleasant weather, poor road conditions, multi-layered clothing, and so on.

Endocrinologists, who are in charge of hormonal “games” in our body, believe that the revitalization of a number of areas in our perception and mood, including carnal desires, is associated with the work of neurotransmitters, which people far from medicine simply call “hormones”.

“Endorphin, serotonin and oxytocin are responsible for our mood, physical and mental energy and the desire to love,” explains endocrinologist Lyudmila Udalova. – They are produced by our brain in certain situations – if we succeeded in something perfectly, when something good happened or we fell in love. But everyone has such a state that nothing special has happened, but you are suddenly filled with pleasant forebodings. This means that the brain has produced so-called “joy hormones” for reasons beyond your control. Among natural stimulants of romantic mood, the main one is the sun. Namely in the spring, since in the summer it can be too scorching, and the heat, on the contrary, extinguishes libido. The warm, bright sun after a long winter is the best impetus for a new romance for both men and women.

Doctors also cite the production of the “male hormone” testosterone and “female” estrogen, which also increases with enough sunlight, as the reasons for the “spring romantic exacerbation.” And both sexes, in a state of increased production of their “title” hormones, are more prone to social contacts and to flirting within it. As for the desire for direct carnal love, for men who love with their eyes, with the beginning of spring, the “trigger” (psychological trigger) can be not only the sun peeking out from behind the clouds, but also women’s legs emerging from under thick winter clothes in public places . And it doesn’t matter whose they are, the main thing is that they survived the winter and made their way to the light along with all living nature.

“In the spring, every sprout will rise as soon as it feels the warmth,” the village healer Baba Efrosinya is sure. “The main thing is to give it more light, don’t forget to water it and don’t trample it.” This applies to both the sprout and the man.
