Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov told what led to his hospitalization in January 2023 and amputation of his limbs. The athlete shared unknown details in the documentary film “Roman Kostomarov: Twice Born.”

As Kostomarov said, on January 9 he went to the bathhouse and took a steam bath, and after that he dived into the ice hole a couple of times. According to the skater, “it was a hard blow to my body,” and already on the way home, an “incredible cough” appeared and a stabbing sensation in my side.

Soon after this, Roman Kostomarov was hospitalized with pneumonia. His condition deteriorated sharply and serious complications arose. To save the athlete’s life, doctors amputated both feet and hands.

Kostomarov, with the help of doctors, managed to defeat the disease and actively began rehabilitation. He has already started skating and snowboarding, although, according to him, after being discharged from the hospital I didn’t understand how to live further and how to show up to your children.

On the eve of International Women’s Day Roman Kostomarov congratulated the doctorswho saved him a year ago. According to the skater, women are much stronger than men, although they are called the weaker sex.
