German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock announced the introduction of the post of “ambassador for feminist foreign policy” in her department. All applicants for this position will be tested for knowledge of the principles of gender equality. Burbock’s words are quoted by Der Spiegel.
According to the German minister, the duties of the new “ambassador” will include “introducing a foreign policy in the spirit of feminism”, as well as “developing guidelines and ensuring their implementation.” Citing Burbock, the German edition refers to the draft feminist doctrine, which was prepared by the German Foreign Ministry.
The document, which obliges future German diplomats to have “gender competence”, will be made public on March 1. Candidates for employment at the German Foreign Ministry will be tested on how well they know the “principles of gender equality and their diversity.”
Plans are also reported to increase the number of women among the leadership of the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany and diplomatic missions abroad. Now the proportion of female leaders in the embassies of Germany is 27%, which, apparently, seems insufficient to the heads of the department. In addition, they announced the need to further strengthen the fight against harassment (harassment at work).
