Sperm were able to “violate” Newton’s third law

Japanese experts in hydrodynamics and mathematical modeling have come to the conclusion that Newton’s third law, discovered in 1686, acts on sperm “nonlinearly.” This allows sperm to move using less energy, the scientists said.
Specialists applied the previously known concept of antisymmetric elastic oscillations to a nonlinear regime to spermatozoa and developed a concept based on it, which they called the “antisymmetric elastic modulus.” It allows a certain wave-like movement in a viscous liquid, reacting to its movements and preventing the appearance of a counterforce.
The authors of the work, published in the journal PRX Life, suggest that the physical principle they studied can be applied, including in robotics.
