In the 23rd round of the Russian Football Championship, difficult victories were won by Spartak and CSKA fighting for prizes. The army team beat Ural away – 2:1. Spartak with the same score defeated Torpedo in a match in which they had three penalties and two removals. The red-whites still close the top three, and the red-blues are one point behind them.
The correspondence confrontation between Spartak and CSKA was in the spotlight at the start of the 23rd round. The red-whites noticeably lost in the spring and won only one victory in five championship matches, losing nine points. The Red-Blues, on the contrary, improved and won four meetings in a row, including against Zenit, with a total score of 10:0. As a result, the army team reduced the gap from Spartak to a minimum and joined the fight not even for the third, but for the second place, which is occupied by Rostov.
On the wave of recent successes, Vladimir Fedotov’s team went to visit Ural, with whom they will soon meet twice in the final of the upper bracket of the Russian Cup. Moreover, they already competed at the group stage of the tournament, and then Yekaterinburg was ahead of Muscovites. And in general, when the current coach of the Urals, Viktor Goncharenko, plays against his former club, it is always interesting. Although the Belarusian specialist was absent directly on the edge of the field, as he was sitting on the podium for a three-match suspension.
The hosts were very close to opening the scoring when Andrey Egorychev took one on one with goalkeeper Eric Bikfalvi.
And it seems that the Romanian striker struck well, but the permanent guard of the army gates Igor Akinfeev turned out to be too good, who once again reminded that he had not only hands, but also golden legs. But Ilya Pomazun, who, before renting to Ural, performed the duties of the second number under Akinfeev, could not do anything when Anton Zabolotny freely closed Baktiyor Zainutdinov’s supply to the area of the goalkeeper’s square.
So CSKA quickly took the lead 1-0 and suggested that the Yekaterinburgers try to open their impenetrable defense. But until the end of the first half, they limited themselves to only hitting the crossbar, after Rai Vloet ventured to hit from a rather distant standard. And in the debut of the second, the army team earned a penalty, which they managed to fix only with the help of VAR, and Fedor Chalov doubled the lead.
For Ural, the situation became critical, but soon referee Vladislav Bezborodov awarded a penalty to the guests, who violated the rules during a corner kick, and Vlut still forced Akinfeev to take the ball out of the net. The hosts believed that this match could be saved and made every effort. In addition, Pomazun kept the team in the game when Chalov ran away from the defenders, and then dangerously beat Zabolotny. As a result, Ural did not have enough attacking power to score the second goal and avoid defeat. CSKA prevailed – 2:1, scored 44 points and temporarily moved up to third place.
Spartak, whose streak without victories in all tournaments stretched for five matches, had the opportunity to interrupt it in a game with an outsider of the Premier League – Torpedo. However, it was not just a game, but the first in the history of the Premier League, in which Spanish specialists opposed each other. The head coach of the red and white Guillermo Abascal has already managed to adapt to Russian football, but Josep Clotet has only recently made his debut. His first pancake turned out to be lumpy, and the black-and-whites lost to Rostov, but in the next meeting with Fakel, he led them to victory.
Spartak again entered the field without the leaders Quincy Promes and Georgy Jikia, although the second one appeared in the application, and Alexander Sobolev, the author of the double in the last match with Dynamo, was also suspended.
Yes, and the loss of Daniil Khlusevich and Viktor Mozes for health reasons were quite sensitive for Abaskal’s team. Well, Clotet again surprised by putting super-veterans Alexander Ryazantsev and Igor Lebedenko into the starting lineup, who are both 75 years old.
In the first minutes, the Torpedo players imposed a very aggressive football on the favorite and created certain problems, but he was frankly lucky when the referees punished the owners of the Luzhniki stadium with a penalty for uncontrolled handball in the penalty area. True, Spartak’s Keita Balde did not convert this “garbage” 11-meter shot, slamming it into the crossbar. But right there, the Senegalese struck a flawless shot from the transfer of Danil Prutsev and rehabilitated for a miss.
Balde continued to demonstrate an increased charge on the gate. I did not score, but thanks to my activity I organized two more penalties. Thus, in only one first half, the guests hit three times from the “point”, and in the second attempt, Ruslan Litvinov lost the duel to goalkeeper Yegor Baburin. Roman Zobnin in the third case still drove the ball into the net, and Clotet argued so zealously with referee Pavel Shadykhanov that he was awarded a red card. On the other hand, it cannot be said that the torpedo men, as they say, were “killed”. The penalties on the same Bald were indisputable, despite the fact that Artem Samsonov, who cut him down, deserved not a warning, but a removal.
In addition, Spartak, with the exception of an indistinct starting segment of the match, was clearly superior to black and white in terms of basic football parameters. And in the second half, the red-whites played more convincingly.
Only their implementation still left much to be desired. Mikhail Ignatov didn’t even hit the empty net, while Christopher Martins hit the crossbar. But the match ceased to be, as they say, languid after Litvinov got a second yellow card, and from the 68th minute the guests had to act in the minority. Torpedo finally had a real scoring chance when Mario Čuric jumped on goalkeeper Alexander Selikhov, who saved Spartak, and then parried Andre Felipe’s shot.
Moreover, in the 89th minute, Shadykhanov sent off Martins, and the red-whites ended the meeting with nine in general. And in the second of five added minutes, the hosts scored Ilya Stefanovich, who was allowed to hit his head without interference. It was very hard for the guests in the end, nevertheless, Abascal won a kind of Spanish derby against Clotet – 2:1. Spartak retained third place, catching up with Rostov with 45 points, which has a match with Zenit ahead.
