Soyuz carrier rocket with Iranian satellite launched from Baikonur

The Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket was launched at 8:52 Moscow time from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. It will deliver into space the Earth remote sensing satellite (ERS) Khayyam, built in Russia on the order of Iran, as well as 16 small devices. As an additional load, 16 small satellites were sent along with Khayyam. They were created by leading universities, commercial companies and non-profit organizations, transmits TASS. These devices are needed for scientific research, measuring the level of electromagnetic radiation, remote sensing of the Earth and monitoring the environmental situation.
Russia and Iran signed an agreement on the creation of a space system for remote sensing in 2015. According to the document, the VNIIEM corporation was responsible for the development and launch of the satellite, the BARL research and production concern was engaged in finalizing the ground infrastructure, and the Iranian company Bonyan Danesh Sharg acted as the operator of the space system.
