Specialists of the Military Educational and Scientific Center of the Air Force “Air Force Academy. professors N. E. Zhukovsky and Yu. A. Gagarin “developed and patented a system for refueling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in flight. It allows you to produce it at any time of the year and day in automatic mode. TASS refers to the corresponding document distributed by the Federal Institute of Industrial Property.
The invention will improve the efficiency of the use of drones, increase the time they stay in the air, the radius of combat use and the mass of the payload during takeoff.
It is planned that refueling will be carried out by a tanker drone. The patented UAV in-flight refueling system includes the equipment of a tanker drone and a refueling UAV.
According to the authors of the new system, a similar analogue of the invention, patented in the United States, has significant drawbacks. In particular, these are great psychophysical loads on the tanker pilot due to the lack of exact coordinates about the relative position of the cone and rod. It also talks about the possibility of its use only at a short distance, which reduces the reliability and safety of refueling, and makes it impossible to refuel in difficult meteorological conditions, especially at night.
The invention, which has received a patent in the Russian Federation, will make it possible to improve safety and reliability at the stage of docking the tanker drone cone with the fueling bar of the UAV being refueled, regardless of the navigation system used.
The developers claim that the proposed technology is applicable in practice, since standard tools that are part of the on-board radio-electronic equipment of aircraft can be used to create it.
