“Southerners will now have a hard time” – Kommersant FM

The leader of the Russian football championship has changed. Krasnodar lost to Ural with a score of 1:3, and Zenit beat Sochi (3:0). Now the standings are headed by the current champion from St. Petersburg, and the southerners are one point behind. Kommersant FM sports commentator Vladimir Osipov followed the developments in the 16th round of the RPL.
The tour turned out to be bright; five goals were scored in the CSKA-Dynamo derby. The blue and white prevailed – 3:2. “Krylya Sovetov” and “Lokomotiv” generally put on a show in which the “wings”, losing 1:3, equalized the score in injury time, and the meeting ended in a draw (3:3).
In some places the weather prevented the teams from showing beautiful football. In Kaliningrad, where Baltika and Spartak met, it snowed so much that real snowdrifts appeared on the field in which the ball got stuck. Spartak won (2:0), but the hosts had many dangerous chances and it was a miracle they didn’t score.
In general, I would like to say warm words about Baltika, despite the defeat and ending up in the relegation zone. Firstly, it is clear that among the football players there are no indifferent ones. And the work of the club’s management generally deserves attention. The fact is that in Kaliningrad they are trying to work in a European way, not without success.
Every match turns into a show, so people come to the stadium no matter what, and Fan ID has ceased to be a problem. The average attendance of the arena is 15 thousand. For an isolated region where about 1 million people live, this is a lot. The management of Baltika wants to make the football club profitable. Under certain circumstances, this is possible even in Russia, Elena Poleiko, deputy general director of the Baltika club, told Kommersant FM:
“The football club’s earnings on match days are the ticket program and paraphernalia. Maximum – 20%. The revenue structure is divided between TV rights – about 40-45%, and 40-45% – commercial partners. We don’t know how to kick, we don’t know how to play, and the state protects us by limiting the interaction of football clubs with bookmakers and beer companies. But when there are prohibitive measures, some benefits must be given. If there were some government preferences, the football club could become a business.”
In the meantime, Baltika will have to get out of the basement of the standings, and it will not be easy. But as for the championship race, it seems that much is becoming clear. “Krasnodar” played the worst match this season, and completely lost to Viktor Goncharenko’s “Ural” (1:3).
The southerners’ key player, John Cordoba, scored a goal and received a red card. Moreover, he showed an indecent gesture to the judges after the match, and now Cordoba could be disqualified for four matches. Moreover, goalkeeper Matvey Safonov was injured after colliding with his own defender.
And how serious this is is still unclear. So the southerners will now have a hard time. And there are two more rounds ahead, and Vladimir Ivich’s team will have to play with Orenburg and CSKA. It is quite possible that the club that was predicted to win the championship will not even get into the top three, says football expert Dmitry Bulykin:
“I think Krasnodar will still fall in the standings. And if the Moscow teams perform well, then “Krasnodar” will not even get to the top places. “Krylya Sovetov” will definitely not be there, and “Krasnodar” will not be able to withstand the onslaught of Moscow teams and will fall below the top places.”
There are two Moscow teams at the top of the standings so far. Dynamo is third, and Spartak is fourth. Moreover, they are now not so far from Krasnodar. White-blue – four points, and red-white – five. CSKA are in sixth position. Lokomotiv is in eighth place.
But the density in the standings is still unrealistic. It is worth saying that Rostov, after defeating Paris NN with a minimal score (1:0), is in 10th place and may well get into the top eight before the winter break. At least Rubin, which has kept a clean sheet for six games in a row and has now defeated Fakel (1:0), is in seventh place.
