“Sooner or later we had to succeed, we try very hard”: the head coach of the RK “Kuban” about the third place

Krasnodar “Kuban” in the third round of the Russian rugby-7 championship, which was held in Anapa, took third place. This was the highest success of the team in the Olympic discipline in the current season. Previously, “Kuban” in two rounds of the championship of Russia became the fourth, in the same position Krasnodar completed the Spartakiad of the strongest athletes of Russia and the Cup of the country.

Details about the performance of “Kuban” in Anapa, where there were 2 rounds in a row during the week, said the head coach Maxim Amonov.

– I won’t say that it was physically difficult to conduct 2 rounds in a row. It’s more about tactics. We, unfortunately, suffer from game discipline, we often violate our game strategy, lose the ball, which is why we have to work hard on defense. In the third round, we played 4 games at once on the first day and completed the group stage. But we have a good bench, so we could change easily. In the second game against the National League team, I may not have done the right thing for my team, but on the whole, I did the right thing for the development of rugby. First, he released substitutes, and when we started to lose, our main players appeared to win. It was possible to do the opposite, so that the base would create a good advantage in the score, and the substitutes would “finish” the match. But they gave the opportunity to believe in themselves to the team from the Federal League – for the good of rugby.

The head coach of Krasnodar spoke about a major defeat in the semi-finals from VVA-Podmoskovye (0:34) and a long-awaited victory in the match for 3rd place against Yenisei-STM from Krasnoyarsk (19:12).

– You know, in women’s rugby you can’t be so strict about the scores. If one team beat the other big, it still doesn’t say anything, the next day everything can turn out radically differently. For example, Yenisei recently won against VVA-Podmoskovye, but then lost to this opponent with a big score. In the last round, we almost beat VVA, but lost with a big gap to Yenisei. Now it’s the other way around. It often happens that one team caught the courage, and the second gave up – and attempts began. In the third round in the semi-finals against VVA, the game did not go well for us, in the match for 3rd place we focused on keeping the ball in our hands, cherishing it. A lot turned out in defense, in the attack we realized our chances. Probably, the opponent’s game wasn’t quite right either. Sooner or later, we had to succeed, we try, we work, and this will bear fruit.

Maxim Amonov also spoke about the plans of “Kuban” in the foreseeable future.

– The next round of the Russian championship will take place only in the spring, in March or April. Many of our girls will now go to the Russian national teams, they will get new experience there. Before the New Year, we at the club will improve our overall physical fitness, improve technical aspects, and work individually with the players. There will also be a New Year’s snow rugby tournament, where we will take part. Of course, you plan to intensify. We follow the players of the championship of Russia, we will try to invite the right ones. And there are already a couple of people who will soon join us.
