Sony may release PlayStation 5 with a removable drive

The Japanese company Sony is preparing to release a new version of the PlayStation 5 console with a removable drive. According to well-known insider Tom Henderson on his Twitter, citing sources, the new model will go on sale in September 2023 and will replace the existing versions with and without a drive.

There will be two complete sets of one model. In the future, for the version without a drive, it can be purchased separately. This will also come in handy in case the disc reader breaks down – you won’t need to buy a new console, you just need to replace the drive. According to the technical characteristics, the console will not differ from the current versions. The removable drive will connect to the console via the USB Type-C port on the back of the PS5. The appearance of the console will also remain virtually unchanged. However, it is possible that it will become thinner and lighter. By June 2022, Sony has sold over 21.7 million PS5 consoles.
