Some regions of Peru declared a state of emergency due to protests

The Peruvian authorities announced on Saturday a state of emergency in the department of Lima and some other regions. The government newspaper El Peruan published a corresponding decree.
Rallies continue in Peru demanding the resignation of the head of state, Dina Boluarte, and new elections.
In the departments of Puno, Cusco, Lima, in five provinces, as well as on several routes included in the national road network, a state of emergency has been introduced since January 15, which will last 30 days.
Large-scale anti-government demonstrations began in Peru after the removal of President Pedro Castillo from power. Since December 7, there have been attacks on government buildings, airports, blocking roads. More than 40 people were killed in the clashes and hundreds were injured.
In mid-December, the authorities declared a nationwide state of emergency for 30 days, citing the need to restore order and ensure people’s rights.
On December 20 last year, the Peruvian authorities announced the expulsion of the Mexican ambassador, expressing dissatisfaction with statements made in Mexico City about the political situation in the South American state.
On the same day, Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard announced that the Castillo family had been given political asylum on the territory of the embassy in Lima. The wife and children of the ex-president of Peru arrived in Mexico City on December 21.
