Some of the best Russian dancers performed incendiary in Petrozavodsk

On Wednesday, February 22, members of the Ragtime dance club showed their numbers at the Follow the Dream gala concert. On the same stage, along with the best dancers of Petrozavodsk, one of the most successful couples in Russia and even the world performed. The snowy capital of Karelia was visited by two-time world champions and European champions among WDC professionals in 10 dances Nikolai Govorov and Evgenia Tolstaya.

Athletes came to dance as children: Nikolai began attending training from the age of 6-7, and Evgenia’s dancing path began at the age of 12. The girl admitted that she did not initially set high goals for herself, but “appetite came with eating.” The dancers paired up about 15 years ago, since then they have been climbing to the top together. The life of professional athletes consists of everyday training. Nikolai and Evgenia put all their strength and capabilities into the result, despite occasional injuries.

The couple travel a lot for the sake of competitions taking place around the world. In the current situation, athletes from Russia can only perform in a neutral status, which is why they had to dance without the Russian flag at the last World Championships in Austria.

Nikolai and Evgenia, being professionals, have the right to be judges at various tournaments. Just during the judging, the couple met and became friends with Petrozavodsk residents. Therefore, the athletes agreed to come with pleasure when they received an invitation to a concert in our small town. The Karelian capital greeted the champions with a hard frost, so they had to admire the beauties through the car window so as not to get sick and not to chill their muscles just before the performance. Nevertheless, the guests managed to appreciate the Hyperborean sculptures on the Onega embankment, which were very well illuminated by the sun before their arrival.

We asked the dancers to give some advice to those who also want to succeed in sports. Nikolai emphasized that it is important not to lose motivation and the very desire to dance: “Sometimes there are difficult periods, something doesn’t work out or you just don’t feel like it, because the children get tired and want to be distracted by other things, although deep inside they have a desire to dance. But there are no former “ball players” – those who left for some reason, they always regret their decision very much. Therefore, you need to go forward and believe in yourself. Then the difficulties will be subject to.

“I wish you perseverance. Dancing is always a teamwork of children, parents and teachers. When a child says that he does not want to or is tired, as was the case with me once, it is important to support and guide him. My grandmother told me to build character and train, after which the desire to quit dancing never arose again. Despite failures, you need to believe, desire and achieve your goal. Who wants to – he will always achieve! ”, – we heard such words from Evgenia.
