Sobyanin spoke about the growth of budget revenues in Moscow against the backdrop of sanctions

Moscow’s budget remains strong despite sanctions. About this in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda told mayor of the capital Sergey Sobyanin.

He noted that despite the sanctions in 2022, the city budget was fully implemented in terms of revenues.

“For this year, we budgeted growth of 4.5%. In fact, we are going with an increase in income by 6-7%. This is not a reason to relax, but you should not worry too much either. The budget in Moscow is strong. All social obligations and development plans will be fulfilled,” Sobyanin stressed.

The share of Moscow’s oil and gas revenues has declined from 17% to 3% in recent years. Sobyanin noted that, naturally, this industry is not dominant, but “these percentages are earned,” since tens of thousands of people are employed in the oil and gas sector in Moscow.

According to Sobyanin, Moscow has been working on increasing revenues for 12 years. This is facilitated by a system of benefits for industry, small businesses, which are “the most active and creative” in the capital, and all investments in the city “pay off in multiples” and attract private investment.

In 2023, the volume of city budget revenues was planned in the amount of 3.746 trillion rubles. At the same time, expenses should amount to 4.183 trillion rubles. The deficit was estimated at 436.2 billion rubles. On SPIEF Sobyanin explainedthat in 2023 the deficit is of a technical nature and assumed that Moscow would come out with “normal parameters, maybe even with a surplus.”
