Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that the national park “Losiny Ostrov” is not planned to be built up after the transfer of part of the park to the jurisdiction of the capital. The rehabilitation project will be discussed with residents, the mayor added, changes will begin to be introduced on the territory in a year.
Losiny Ostrov is the largest forest area in Moscow, which also enters the territory of the Moscow Region (urban districts of Balashikha, Korolev, Mytishchi and Schelkovo).
“Speculation that Moscow will take everything, build up everything with housing. I don’t know why they say all this. We have a lot of parks in Moscow, a lot of specially protected areas, but we don’t build any housing anywhere, ”said Mr. Sobyanin at a meeting with residents of the Eastern Administrative District of the city (quoted from “RIA News”).
“We’ll make a project, we’ll discuss it with you, but I think we’ll start in a year, put things in order and make it convenient so that you can all use it,” he added.
On July 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing Moscow to transfer part of the authority to manage the territory of Losiny Ostrov, located within the boundaries of the city. Sergei Sobyanin said that he himself turned to the president about a year ago with a request to create a project for the rehabilitation of the territory.
