Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin in an interview “RIA News” said that the funds received from New Year’s events in the capital will be used to support a special operation in Ukraine. According to him, it is necessary to congratulate the fighters on the front line and pay attention to the families of the mobilized.
According to Sergei Sobyanin, the capital’s budget will receive more funds in the event of holding New Year’s events than if it saves money by abandoning them. He called the idea of saving money by not holding events controversial, referring to a similar situation during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to him, first of all, this affects entrepreneurs. “It’s just a wild fall, up to 20-30% drop in the income of small and medium-sized businesses, the ruin of the entire service system. Whom did we decide to give such a gift to?” the mayor asked.
Sergei Sobyanin stressed that Russia “is in a difficult situation,” “the country is essentially at war,” but this does not mean that the holidays should be cancelled. At the same time, the decision of the issue remains with the residents of Moscow, the mayor noted. Earlier today, November 16, Sergei Sobyanin proposed Muscovites to vote on the Active Citizen portal regarding the cancellation of New Year’s events.
