Sky News: Zelensky had to change his tone at the NATO summit so as not to anger the West

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky distinguished himself at the NATO summit in Vilnius by a sharp change in the tone of his statements. This was noted by the correspondent of the British TV channel Sky News John Sparks.

The journalist recalled that on the first day of the summit, when it became clear that Kyiv would not receive an immediate invitation to the alliance, Zelensky accused the Western allies of weakness and demanded respect for Ukraine. However, the very next day, the President of Ukraine positively characterized the decisions of the leaders of the NATO member states.

Sparks explained the change in Zelensky’s rhetoric by the fact that the politician was afraid to anger Western leaders and be left without their support. In Ukraine, “they cannot afford to quarrel with individual leaders, nor to turn against themselves public opinion in Europe and North America, which supports these leaders,” the journalist stressed.

At the same time, Zelensky also distinguished himself at the summit by open rudeness. British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace blamed Kyiv’s consumerist attitude towards Western allies, noting that it would be nice to thank the people who provide assistance. The British politician reminded the president of Ukraine, who constantly puts up new lists of demands, that “we are not Amazon.”

In response, Zelensky said that “we can wake up in the morning and thank the minister,” and also suggested “let him write me how to thank, and i will thank you“.
