Ski-roller track in Russian Pestovo: a unique object has not been repaired for more than 12 years

In the village of Russkoye Pestovo there is the only ski-roller track in the Novgorod region. Currently, it is in a deplorable state, in some areas the asphalt has collapsed. Local residents are worried about the fate of the sports facility and talk about the need to restore it. “MK in Veliky Novgorod” tells what is remarkable about the Pestov track and what its prospects are.

The ski-roller track was built during the Soviet Union, more than 30 years ago. Its length is 3.2 kilometers, width – from 4 to 9 meters. This was reported in the press service of the Novgorod Regional Duma.

Active athletes train on the Pestov track, three athletes claim to be included in the Russian national teams in fake races in the roller ski discipline. Also, competitions are held here, to which athletes from Veliky Novgorod, Borovichi, Valdai, Staraya Russa, Demyansk, Okulovka and Marev come.

Honored Worker of Physical Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vasilyev said that the last time the asphalt concrete surface of the track was repaired was in 2010. Since then, it has been pretty worn out, the sports facility has significant damage.

The restoration of the track is a burning issue for local athletes. The director of the Pestovo sports school, Yulia Fedorova, noted that 60% of the preparation for the ski season is made up of summer classes.

In addition, the sports facility in Russian Pestovo allows for high-level competitions, but everything depends on the poor condition of the track. According to Fedorova, if the repair issue is resolved, the Russian Cup can be held in the village.

In 2021, an estimate was drawn up for the restoration of the asphalt concrete pavement. The cost of the work, taking into account the recent rise in prices, is about 20 million rubles. The regional Duma promised to work out the issue of allocation of funds.
