SKA beat CSKA for the fourth time in a row

In a match between two Fonbet giants of the KHL championship, SKA beat the Gagarin Cup winner CSKA for the fourth time in a row during the current regular season. This time away with a score of 2:0, extending the Muscovites’ unexpectedly long series of defeats in the tournament to five meetings.
CSKA’s performance at the beginning of this match made us remember some of the figures associated with the club’s performance in the current championship. An undisputed hockey giant, the current winner of the Gagarin Cup – and sixth place in the Western Conference table with modest results. And also three misfires in three meetings already held in the regular season against SKA, the most important opponent. And also an unpleasant trail in the form of a series of four defeats in a row before a new clash with him. The game of the Moscow army team reminded us of these numbers, however, not because it was bad. Quite the opposite. She simply screamed about the unbearable desire to get even for failures and improve statistics. CSKA looked like a boxer-puncher who had accumulated a lot of energy, who had no time for pauses, but had to hit, hit and hit, since he already had the strength and anger. And Andrei Svetlakov, having picked up the rebound on the spot and failing to score, again desperately fought for the puck, for the next rebound.
Amazingly, it took SKA, accustomed to control, a third of the period to finally shoot on target. And by this time the army team had accumulated almost a dozen such shots.
But, having suffered and adapted to CSKA’s aggression, the St. Petersburgers produced a very good segment, during which they managed to restore balance, if not by hitting the target, then by the amount of sharpness they created. And it was through the roof, for example, in the episode when Sergei Tolchinsky completed a cross at the far post – and completed it, it seemed, for sure. But no, CSKA goalkeeper Dmitry Gamzin, as it turned out, felt and calculated everything – his shield appeared in the path of the puck, as if out of nowhere.
In the second period, the level of emotions rose a little more. But the removal did not change anything – the scythe found its way onto the stone. And if a team pressed its opponents for a couple of minutes, this did not mean that its fans could look into the future with optimism. So, SKA, having attacked the hosts, received an attack from Andrei Svetlakov in response. The barbell saved the St. Petersburg residents from harm.
The account was opened at the end of the period. And the picture immediately after the goal was touching: its author Ivan Zinchenko made a deep bow right on the ice to Mikhail Vorobyov, who gave him a truly magical “throw-up” pass through someone else’s stick. Well, yes, this one was definitely worth a bow.
The final period struck, first of all, with the restraint and discipline with which SKA conducted it. Not a single fussy movement, not a single risky loss. Everything was fine with CSKA’s energy, but it didn’t help him much, even in the majority.
It was a real hymn to the art of defense, which SKA performed without hesitation and with feeling. Not forgetting, of course, to stab opponents on occasion, so as not to get too carried away, and do not forget that you need to constantly look back. And when you look around, it’s terribly difficult to concentrate on the attack, to relax.
Of course, CSKA still had chances – mostly created not by subtlety, but by pure pressure. But Nikita Serebryakov has shown himself time after time to be a goalkeeper who has learned to understand situations when the puck is rushing around and he must, while maintaining composure, not lose sight of it.
In the end, of course, there was a time-out taken by CSKA coach Sergei Fedorov, and the sixth field player entering the ice instead of Gamzin. It was all to no avail. SKA still defended too convincingly. Alexander Nikishin finished off the Muscovites by sending the puck into the empty net. After this victory, SKA caught up with Lokomotiv, which is third in the conference table, and CSKA is still in the basement of the play-off zone.
