Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Acting Head of the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) Leonid Pasechnik. During the conversation, Mr. Putin called the situation on the line of contact in Donbas stable. He also called for the restoration of the economy and social sphere in the region simultaneously with the solution of security issues.
Vladimir Putin also said that, in his opinion, the main problems in the annexed regions are people’s incomes and rising prices. “There are quite obvious issues related to the need to restore the residential sector, the residential complex, the social sector, communications, housing and communal services. But these are all questions, as they say, everyday, I am sure that your team will be able to solve this, ”he said (quoted by TASS).
Mr. Putin added that, according to his observations, residents are returning to the LPR. “I see that you have a certain return there. You have such a positive migration influx,” he said.
In turn, Leonid Pasechnik noted that the situation in the LPR “continues to be tense.” “Although, I must say that it is quite stable, without any sharp exacerbations. The tension, of course, is due to the fact that the line of military contact is in close proximity to part of the territory of the republic, ”he said.
Last week the People’s Council of the LPR accepted law on the procedure for electing the head of the LPR. Vladimir Putin will nominate three candidates for the post of head of the LPR, and then regional deputies will choose one of them by secret ballot. Elections in the region should be held on a single voting day on September 10.
