Singer Shaman said that he was filed a complaint about extremism for the song “I’m Russian”

Singer Yaroslav Dronov (creative pseudonym Shaman) said that “a certain citizen” applied to the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Tula region with a statement about checking the song “I am Russian” for extremism and inciting ethnic hatred. The department has contacted the contractor for written clarifications. He gave them and posted them in his Telegram channel.
“My song ‘I am Russian’ is known, loved and sung by representatives of completely different nationalities inhabiting our country. For each of them, speaking and thinking in Russian, the statement “I am Russian” means belonging to our common history, great culture and spiritual kinship with millions of other fellow citizens who consider Russia their homeland, ”the singer’s explanatory note says, which he published in Telegram channel.
In the note, Mr. Dronov also said that the song had passed all the necessary checks before being published on Russian music platforms and before being broadcast on federal channels. “The explanation was given by me with my own hand, I wrote this song and sing it, because I am Russian,” Shaman concluded.
31-year-old Yaroslav Dronov began performing under the pseudonym Shaman in 2020. On February 23, 2022, he released the track “Let’s Get Up”. The video for the song collected 39 million views on the YouTube platform in a year. On July 22, Shaman released the song “I’m Russian”. As of February this year, the video for this track has 28 million views on YouTube.
Last August, comedian Alexander Gudkov released a parody video for the song “I’m Russian” called “I’m Narrow.” Because of the parody of Mr. Gudkov, they wrote a statement to the prosecutor’s office with a call to bring him to criminal liability under Article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (incitement of hatred or enmity, as well as humiliation of human dignity). In an interview with Kommersant Shaman declaredthat parodies are one of the signs of interest in his work.
