The press service of the Ministry of Defense reported that over the past week and a half the number of people wishing to serve under a contract has increased. According to the department, since the beginning of the year, more than 100 thousand people have entered contract service. The Ministry of Defense claims that the majority motivated their intention to serve under a contract with the desire to avenge the victims of the terrorist attack at Crocus.

“Since the beginning of this year, more than 100 thousand people have already entered military service under a contract in the armed forces of the Russian Federation,”— reported Ministry of Defense. As the department notes, over the past week and a half, at selection points for military service under a contract, “a significant increase in the number of people wishing to participate” in hostilities in Ukraine has been recorded.

According to the Ministry of Defense, up to 1.7 thousand people come to contract selection points across the country every day, and over the past ten days, 16 thousand citizens have signed contracts to participate in hostilities in Ukraine. “During interviews conducted over the past week at selection points in Russian cities, the majority of candidates indicated the desire to avenge those killed in the tragedy that occurred on March 22, 2024 in the Moscow region as the main motive for concluding a contract,” the Ministry of Defense claims.

The terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall occurred on March 22. 144 people became victims, 551 people were injured. The Islamic State (recognized as terrorist and banned) claimed responsibility for the attack. American intelligence agencies are talking about the group’s involvement. President Vladimir Putin said that the terrorist attack was carried out by radical Islamists. At the same time, the head of the FSB, Alexander Bortnikov, admittedthat the USA, Great Britain and Ukraine may be involved in the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall.
