Simonyan showed an old video with Pugacheva, accusing her of “justifying Chechen terrorists”

RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan stated that 20 years ago, People’s Artist Alla Pugacheva allegedly justified Chechen terrorists who took hostages at the Nord-Ost musical. In her original program, Simonyan admitted to the audience that “somehow she missed” what political views the singer had already at the beginning of Vladimir Putin’s tenure as head of state.
Simonyan showed an excerpt from an old interview with Pugacheva, in which she spoke out against the “incomprehensible, dirty-smelling” second Chechen war, “in which both sides suffer.”
“Perhaps it’s better, in the name of the interests of people who are innocently suffering, dying for unknown reasons, to admit defeat in the war?” – said Pugacheva.
The video from Simonyan did not provide information about the time the interview was filmed, but she claims that it was recorded at the moment when the terrorists were holding hostages on Dubrovka. Simonyan also stated that she had not previously known about the singer’s pacifist sentiments of those years, but now she found an archived video and was shocked.
“I have known this woman since childhood, fortunately or unfortunately. Alla Pugacheva. Will not be remembered overnight. But I was not familiar with the thoughts she expressed 20 years ago. It’s simply amazing how we all did not notice – two decades have passed…” said Simonyan.
She urged her viewers to think about the fact that for two decades people have not noticed “whose concerts we go to, who we give money to, why they build ugly castles.”
Simonyan claims that Pugacheva refused “to recognize these terrorists as terrorists until they started shooting hostages.”
