Shot: legendary GRU colonel Yuri Starov died in Moscow

At the age of 83, the legendary GRU colonel Yuri Starov passed away as a result of acute heart failure. This was reported by the SHOT Telegram channel.
According to him, the colonel’s body was found earlier in his apartment on Tvardovsky Street in the capital’s Strogino district. No traces of violent death were found.
Retired Colonel Yuri Starov was born in Magnitogorsk, Chelyabinsk region. He studied at the Sverdlovsk Suvorov Military School and the Moscow Higher Military Combined Arms Command School named after the Supreme Soviet of the RSFSR. At the age of 13, he personally read out a drill report to Marshal Zhukov.
Yuri Timofeevich served in the GRU special forces for 30 years, and in 1986-1988 he was the commander of the 15th separate special forces brigade in Afghanistan. He had 2,500 military personnel under his command. In 1987 alone, they eliminated 332 caravans with weapons and shells, 8 million pieces of small arms ammunition, 80 man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems, captured 290 heavy weapons, 30 unguided rockets, 15 thousand anti-personnel and anti-tank mines.
