The head of the Russian military department, Sergei Shoigu, on the second day of his visit to Tehran, met with the Minister of Defense and Support of the Armed Forces of Iran, Mohammad Reza Ashtiani. The Russian minister noted that “Russian-Iranian interaction is reaching a new level.” He called sanctions pressure on Russia and Iran from the United States and other Western countries hopeless.
Among the issues discussed are further joint actions “in the field of strengthening stability and security in the Middle East,” as well as “further strengthening of the strategic partnership in the defense sector and military cooperation.”
Sergei Shoigu’s visit to Iran takes place against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, where Azerbaijan has launched a local anti-terrorist operation.
