Police unblocked the embassy building in Yerevan

The Russian embassy building in Yerevan was unblocked on the night of September 20. About it reports TASS with reference to the broadcast of local media.

It is noted that the police detained several protesters. RIA Novosti at about 7:30 Moscow time wrote on strengthening security measures at the embassy building. There are currently about 20 police officers on duty there. According to the agency, a group of young people are also standing outside the embassy, ​​but “they are not actively expressing their opinions, they are not shouting any slogans.”

On September 19, against the backdrop of the start of Azerbaijan’s “anti-terrorist” operation in Nagorno-Karabakh, near the Russian Embassy in Yerevan started clashes between protesters and law enforcement officials. The protesters called on Russia to take measures to resolve the situation in Karabakh, RIA Novosti reported. The press service of the Russian diplomatic mission statedthat the embassy building was completely blocked by protesters. The diplomatic mission sent a note to the Armenian Foreign Ministry with a view to taking measures.

In addition, demonstrators tried to break through the police cordon and enter the government building. The police used special means to disperse the crowd. News.am with reference to the Investigative Committee of Armenia writesthat police officers were injured as a result and were taken to the hospital. The Republic’s Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the facts of calls for mass riots, their organization and participation in protests.

On September 19, Azerbaijan announced the start of “anti-terrorist measures” in Nagorno-Karabakh to “restorate the constitutional order” of the republic. Yerevan called Baku’s actions “large-scale aggression.” In the Kremlin statedthat Russian peacekeepers continue to perform their function in Karabakh. They added that Moscow sees the possibility of entering into peaceful negotiations to resolve the conflict.
