Sexual maniac decided to insert a chip into his brain to save his marriage

A serial “cheater” asked Reddit users if he should become a “Neuralink hamster” to get rid of the constant need to cheat on his wife, writes the Daily Mail.

A user who signs up as Electronic-Camera277 wrote in a Reddit post that he hopes Elon Musk’s Neuralink brain chip can cure him of his endless bouts of infidelity and save his marriage.

Although serial cheating, otherwise known as sex addiction, is considered a disease, psychologists say it can be treated with therapy – meaning getting a brain chip implanted may not be the most effective way to remain faithful to your partner.

“Reddit is a hotbed of conversation and opinion about adultery – it’s one of the first platforms scammers turn to for advice, but the response and support is mixed,” Jessica Leoni, an infidelity expert at Illicitencounters.com, told the Daily Star. “There is no doubt that Neuralink is in some way not a solution to the problem of serial adultery and addiction treatment in general – no matter how big Elon Musk’s claims are.”

As the Daily Mail recalls, Neuralink successfully implanted its first chip last month as part of the PRIME study, which aims to allow people with quadriplegia to control devices with their thoughts, such as opening an app, pressing or moving a cursor up and down.

“The device is designed to interpret a person’s neural activity so they can control a computer or smartphone simply by thinking about movement—no wires or physical movements required,” the company said in a statement.

However, despite all the potential capabilities that the Neuralink brain chip has, treating someone’s mental health, and especially their needs for adultery, is not one of them.

A Reddit user said he cheated on his wife “more times than I can count” and claimed he was in therapy to treat his sex addiction but was still having a hard time stopping.

That thought process led him to research and consider alternative treatments, he said, adding: “I’m so desperate that I’m even considering Elon Musk’s Neuralink implant to treat addiction.”

He then asked the Reddit community: “Will my wife ever forgive me? Should I tell her? Should I be a Neuralink hamster/should I try?’

Elon Musk has boasted for years that his Neuralink brain chip could be used to regulate people’s hormones and emotional well-being, and could ultimately be a breakthrough for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) or treatment-resistant depression.

In 2020, the tech giant said that the Neuralink chip actually has the ability to control emotions and mood and could even be used to treat addiction.

A Twitter user then asked Musk: “Can Neuralink be used to retrain the part of the brain that is responsible for addiction or depression?” The Independent reports.

Musk replied: “Of course. It’s both cool and scary. All we ever felt or thought about were electrical signals. The early Universe was just a soup of quarks and leptons. How did a very small part of the Universe come to think of itself as intelligent?”

The reality is that the technology is not there yet, and those seeking sex addiction treatment such as Electronic-Camera277 should explore more effective and well-established methods such as counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy, notes.

Cognitive behavioral therapy is the most common form of therapy for sex addiction because it helps the patient identify and process the thought patterns and beliefs that led them to this point.

But many Reddit users reached out to Electronic-Camera277, telling him not to blame his infidelity on “sex addiction,” a sentiment shared by the Center for Positive Sexuality (CPS), the Alternative Sexuality Health Research Alliance (TASHRA), and the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom ( NCSF).

The groups wrote in a 2017 statement that so-called sex “addictions” may be the result of a person’s cultural or religious beliefs rather than based on actual scientific evidence.

The concept of sex addiction “emerged in the 1980s as a socially conservative response to cultural anxieties,” the authors wrote, “and gained recognition through its reliance on medicalization and visibility in popular culture.”

Compulsive sexual behavior is not listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM-5), the reference manual for mental illness published by the American Psychiatric Association. She rejected a proposal to include sexual addiction (hypersexual disorder) in the DSM-5 manual, citing “a lack of evidence and potential consequences for labeling excessive sexual activity as ‘pathological’ (calling it a disease or disorder),” according to the Cleveland Clinic.

Reddit users seemed to echo this sentiment, with one writing: “Every time you cheat on her, you’re making a conscious decision to do it. You meet people, save their phone numbers, go on dates, arrange places, make up Lying to both your wife and the people you date rarely just happens or just happens.

While Electronic-Camera277 shares the problems faced by many others and seeks help from Neuralink, the reality is that implanting brain chips is not and reportedly will not be the solution for some time, the Daily Mail concludes.
