Three people were detained near the Moscow City Court building with posters in support of the former Minister of Defense of the DPR and former FSB officer Igor Strelkov (Girkin), writes RBC. RIA Novosti reports two detainees. Court today admitted Strelkov was guilty of public calls for extremism (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and was sentenced to four years in a general regime colony.

According to Mediazona (announced as a foreign agent), a queue formed in front of the Moscow City Court building long before the hearing of Igor Strelkov’s case, most of those who came were journalists. Because of the crowd that had formed, iron barriers were placed on the approach to the court building. The hearing of the case in court was held behind closed doors.

Igor Strelkov was arrested on July 21, 2023. According to Strelkov himself, the basis for the criminal case was two posts on Telegram about the surrender of Crimea to Ukraine and problems with the military’s allowance. In addition to the four years in prison, the court also prohibited him from administering websites on the Internet for another three years after the expiration of the sentence. He will be able to apply for parole only after six months. Igor Strelkov did not admit guilt. The defense intends to appeal the verdict.
