Every year on September 22, Car Free Day is celebrated in many cities around the world. Since 2008, it has been celebrated in Moscow as well. This year will be no exception.

World Car Free Day aims to remind people of the harm that exhaust gases cause to the environment and human health. On September 22, owners of private cars, motorcycles and mopeds are encouraged to switch to public transport, use bicycles or walk at least for a day. In many cities, including Moscow, they carry out actions that encourage the use of environmentally friendly transport. So, last year, many cafes, restaurants and beauty salons offered discounts to visitors who would come to them on bicycles. Bicycle rental prices have been halved. But mass city events, as in previous years, were not held due to the unfavorable epidemic situation.

This year, the event in honor of the World Car Free Day has been announced so far only by the metropolitan Deptrans – it will be a free tour of the Northern River Station. It will be held by the Moscow Transport Museum.

“You will be able to immerse yourself in the architecture of the main building on the Khimki reservoir, learn about the details of the interior of the middle of the last century and go to the roof of the station – it’s just an amazing view,” Deptrans said in a statement.

However, those wishing to go on a tour need to hurry: it will be free only for the first 30 registered.

But even if you fail to take advantage of this offer, we remind you that on September 22 there is a good reason to walk to work, ride a bike or, leaving the car in the parking lot, try to find convenient routes using public transport. By the way, those who haven’t used it for a long time will probably find many pleasant surprises.
