The US Senate announced the obsolescence of the country’s nuclear arsenal
America’s nuclear arsenal is inferior to Russia’s and is now “dangerously outdated,” said Senate Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Roger Wicker and his fellow Rules and Administration Committee Ranking Member Debra Fischer. Their opinion was published by the Wall Street Journal.
As the senators noted, this situation is due to a lack of funds for the modernization of the US nuclear arsenal, as well as the failure to complete planned activities on time.
“American nuclear weapons are dangerously outdated,” Wicker and Fisher note. They also called on members of Congress and the Biden administration to “act quickly to solve these problems and prevent new ones from arising.” Senators accused the US President and his team of failing to modernize the country’s nuclear arsenal. According to them, Moscow has “the world’s largest nuclear forces,” including “almost unlimited range” intercontinental ballistic missiles.
On Friday, Bloomberg reported that the US Sentinel intercontinental ballistic missile program, the creation of which was estimated at $96 billion, had risen in price by 37%.
