Senator Kovitidi proposes to expand the limits of self-defense

Member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation Olga Kovitidi proposes to introduce into the Criminal Code of Russia norms that take into account the difference in the strength of the parties in cases related to exceeding the limits of self-defense, reports “News”.
Kovitidi noted that many of the killings take place against a backdrop of domestic violence against women who go beyond the limits of self-defense to protect themselves and their children. In such cases, the senator believes, it is necessary to take into account that one of the parties is obviously weaker physically.
According to her, now there is a request from civil society to revise the current version of Art. 37 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, recalling that in the State Duma such a bill received a negative conclusion from the Supreme Court and the government. However, if such a request persists, then a compromise must be sought, the senator added.
