Seismologist Shebalin estimated the possibility of an earthquake in Moscow

There will be no seismic shocks in the Russian capital after the devastating earthquake on February 6 in Turkey. This was announced at a press conference by the director of the Institute of Earthquake Prediction Theory and Mathematical Geophysics of the Russian Academy of Sciences Petr Shebalin.
“Such echoes as after the Romanian earthquakes and the Sea of Okhotsk earthquake in 2013 are impossible in this case,” the scientist said. – Those earthquakes occurred at a great depth, about 200 km (the Sea of Okhotsk and even more than 500 km). Thanks to this, the waves after these earthquakes reached Moscow.
Recall that the depth of the tremors during the earthquake in Turkey amounted to a few kilometers (the first shock was recorded at a depth of 7 km, the second – about 2 km). This, according to Shebalin, causes a fundamentally different nature of the propagation of seismic waves.
“At the same time, of course, instruments around the world, including in Moscow, registered this earthquake,” the scientist added. “Some animals could also feel it.”
