Second focus of African swine fever detected in Primorye – Kommersant

The second outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed at the pig-breeding complex of Rusagro-Primorye LLC. About it today reported press service of the government of the region.
It is specified that the virus was found in the samples taken from animals on the territory of the Leninsky-1 pig-breeding complex in the village of Pervomayskoye, Mikhailovsky district.
“The Leninsky-1 and Leninsky-2 pig complexes are located at a distance of 500 meters from each other, so we expected such a development of the situation and were ready for it. All the necessary anti-epizootic measures have already been taken on the territory of these pig complexes, and disinfection barriers have been put up,” said Stanislav Krushinsky, head of the regional state veterinary inspection.
Governor of Primorsky Krai Oleg Kozhemyako on May 21 signed quarantine order. The village of Galenki of the Oktyabrsky municipal district fell into the threatened zone of 10 km.
Recall that earlier the focus of ASF was identified on the territory of the pig-breeding complex “Leninsky-2” LLC “Rusagro-Primorye”.
“In the near future, all animals housed in the infected pig farm will be disposed of, and the site itself will be cleaned up,” Rusagro informed.
“The number of pigs subject to sanitary liquidation at LLC Rusagro-Primorye is no more than 12% of the total headstock in the region. At the moment, there are 461 thousand pigs in the region, so this situation will not significantly affect the food security of the region,”— declared after the discovery of the first focus of ASF, the Minister of Agriculture of Primorye Andrey Bronts.
