According to the press service of the Transmashholding company (TMH), the Moscow metro cars, which are already running, will be gradually updated. The fabric seat upholstery in brown with “M”, which retains stains and odors, will be replaced with new upholstery that is streak-free and easy to clean.
Subway riders have complained about seat upholstery that retains stains and odors. TMH reported that seat upholstery in cars has a certain service life and is replaced in operation by a service company as it wears out. It will also be replaced with a new one on the cars already produced and plying in the subway.
The fabric of the new seat upholstery will be completely different. The new upholstery is made of long-haired chenille, which does not leave streaks and stains, is easy to clean and adds to the atmosphere of home comfort. TMH clarified that the color schemes of the new upholstery correspond to the train’s design project that was agreed upon initially.
The new upholstery underwent operational testing at the Moscow Metro during 2022. The TMH company emphasized that the old upholstery also meets all the requirements for safety and wear resistance, but it did not perform well in operation.
