Scientists have recorded abnormally rapid warming in northern Europe

How reports Press service of St. Petersburg State University, its specialists managed to record a record-breaking increase in air temperature in the northernmost part of Europe – on the Spitsbergen archipelago.

According to Boris Ivanov, associate professor at St. Petersburg State University, head of the laboratory of ocean-atmosphere interaction processes at the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute, the corresponding conclusions were drawn by analyzing data on changes in air temperature on Spitsbergen over the past 120 years.

“The increase in air temperature in recent decades has occurred at an average rate of approximately 0.34 °C per 10 years,” the scientist said.
