A joint team of scientists from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology and NUST MISiS has developed and for the first time demonstrated the operation of an operating quantum processor, which allows for an accurate assessment (up to 97% accuracy) of any one- and two-qubit operations on superconductors.
These are operations that are carried out by quantum computers several times faster than conventional computers. For example, the decryption process on a classical computer takes orders of magnitude longer than the encryption itself. The use of quantum algorithms quickly gives the most likely decryption key and opens the decrypted data with it.
According to MIPT professor Oleg Astafiev, the researchers managed to perform highly efficient quantum operations on a system of 4 qubits, which is a unique achievement for Russian quantum technologies.
– In the manufacture of a quantum integrated circuit, important features of the technological process were worked out, which allowed us to significantly improve the key characteristics of qubits, – noted Professor Oleg Astafiev.
During the experiment, the program code and equipment were provided by scientists from NUST MISIS, and the site on which it was conducted was located on the territory of MEPhI.
“For the first time in Russia, scientists from both universities have implemented an algorithm that now allows for accurate estimates of basically any one- and two-qubit operations on systems of superconducting qubits,” explained Ilya Moskalenko, researcher at the Superconducting Metamaterials Laboratory at NUST MISIS. — In the future, scientists from both universities plan to start joint work on the development and testing of 8-qubit simulators and processors.
