Oceanologists have used satellite radars to measure the height of the surface of the oceans, which is constantly changing due to the gravitational pull of the bottom topography. As a result, they managed to discover 19,000 new seamounts.
At the same time, it is noted that to date, scientists have been able to map no more than 25% of the seabed, as a result of which the recent work of oceanologists is of tremendous benefit.
In addition, it is expected that another advantage of the study will be that geologists will be able to better map the planet’s tectonic plates and the geomagnetic field. Also, knowledge of the features of the seabed will allow you to make safe routes for submarines.
