“School 21” held a discussion on the technological capabilities of the regions

On the occasion of the birthday of the programming school from Sber “School 21” An event was held at the bank’s headquarters, which was attended by the President, Chairman of the Management Board of Sberbank German Gref, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko, Governor of the Novosibirsk Region Andrei Travnikov, Governor of the Novgorod Region Andrei Nikitin, as well as graduates and participants of School 21.

As German Gref noted, today Sber is the largest technology company in the country and a leader in digitalization. The Bank implements a wide range of large-scale digital projects in various areas of the economy and social sphere, and shares its experience with the federal center and regions. One of these projects is School 21, which opened in 2018. At the moment, there are three campuses of the school in Moscow, Kazan and Novosibirsk. More than 3,500 people study there, and more than 1,200 are already employed in the largest IT companies and start-ups in the country. Two more campuses are planned for opening in Surgut and Veliky Novgorod.

Dmitry Chernyshenko stressed that digital transformation has been identified by President Vladimir Putin as one of Russia’s five national goals. And at the moment, not only the efficiency of digitalization of the leading sectors of the economy, but also the technological sovereignty of the country depends on the quality training of IT personnel. He also noted that the School 21 project is unique and makes a great contribution to the development of Russia’s human resources potential.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation: “This practice should not only be developed in all regions of Russia, but also picked up by large companies. We are already implementing a project to retrain citizens for IT specialties together with educational organizations – these are “Digital Professions”, where the state compensates from 50 to 100% of the cost of education. Projects such as “School 21” provide an opportunity to get a sought-after and important profession and form a qualitatively new level of education in Russia. Scaling the project in the subjects will ensure uniform technological and interregional development in the country.”

As part of the event, a ceremony was held to sign an agreement on cooperation in the field of information technology, which implies the opening of the fifth campus of School 21 in Veliky Novgorod on the basis of Novgorod State University. In addition, students of the school were awarded in the following nominations: “Community Leader”, “Best Coalition/Tribe Leader”, “Best Volunteer”, “Alumnus of the Year”, “Best Club”, and “Contribution to Regional Development/Platform Development”. An important point of the program was also the discussion “Technological breakthrough of the regions. Challenges and Opportunities”. The focus was on key issues for the IT industry: development prospects, what skills will be most in demand in 2030, what is important for the successful work of IT specialists in the country, how technologies are developing in Russia, what digital initiatives are being implemented in the regions, what is unique “Schools 21” and how this project can affect the development of technology in the country.
