Germany agreed on the supply of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) to Ukraine with US President Joe Biden, said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
“I said from the very beginning: we will not go alone and will closely coordinate our actions with our allies. The situation is dynamic. I also agreed with the President [США Джо] Biden deliveries of multiple launch rocket systems to Ukraine, ”said Scholz (quote according to TASS).
The chancellor added that the FRG considers it necessary to share the burden of arms supplies to Ukraine, and is ready to take on the provision of air defense systems and artillery. “We do what is necessary and right. But a certain division of the load makes sense, ”concluded the head of the German government.
Scholz previously stated that Germany does not intend to supply weapons to Ukraine for strikes on Russian territory. Then he noted that he supported Biden’s words about a ban on the supply of weapons to Ukraine for shelling Russian territory. He added that other countries should adhere to this principle as well.
Earlier, Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it needs the M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS MLRS. However, the American authorities were in no hurry to provide the Ukrainian authorities with such weapons. In May, Biden ruled out transferring missile systems to Ukraine that could reach Russian territory.
As a result, the deliveries of the HIMARS MLRS to Ukraine nevertheless took place, but the United States provided them with shells of such a range that they cannot threaten the territory of Russia.
At the same time, Western countries continue to provide large-scale military assistance to Ukraine. So, in August, the United States announced three new military aid packages at once: for $1 billion, $775 million, and almost $3 billion.
